Scott Young's game is tied to three things: His heavy shot, his defensive awareness, and his fast skating. A covert defenseman at Boston University he reads the play equally well in all three zones which is another asset that helped his NHL career.
That shot: hard, quick release, and accurate. It surprised many goalies during his long NHL career. He isn't just a blast and shoot guy though. Young was equally adept at battling in the corner or going to the net with stick down waiting for a shot to tip in or knock-in the rebound. He is a hockey machine. The defensive switch done by Jack Parker at BU probably aided Young's career more than anything. Parker took Young, a defenseman and converted him into a forward. He is thus able to track back if he goes in to far and also out-race defensemen to nullify icings. Scott's not a checker despite basically being a checking winger. He'll bump and get in the way, but he is better at using his speed and hand skills in a defensive manner than checking. Young also played in many of the IIHF events from World Cup of Hockey to Olympics and has won Gold and lost to get Silver as well. Another in the long lines of US players I like. Young is one player I've never met and only saw play live once. Thank goodness for TV and out of market games! Hopefully I'll meet him sooner than later as in 2015 in October I was at the exhibition game at Boston University he walked right past me with his son and I missed my opportunity! UGH! 1988-1989 HARTFORD WHALERS GREEN ROAD SET JERSEY
GAME USE & ABUSE: Few jerseys in my collection can compare to the wear on this jersey. The left arm has three unrepaired, a red paint transfer, and a mere 50+ marks. On the right arm we aren't disappointed either with 40+ marks and some more red paint transfers. The front of the jersey is also littered with marks, 30+ to be exact and also includes two unrepaired holes in the lower portion of the jersey. There are just too many marks to really go into diligent detail on describing the wear. Only about twenty marks grace the back of this phenomenal jersey with more wear than I can count.

1993-1994 QUEBEC NORDIQUES BLUE ROAD SET
GAME USE & ABUSE: Fifteen plus stick marks can be seen without really having to look hard on the left sleeve along with three board burns and one unrepaired hole in the elbow. The right arm has only ten marks, but numerous board burns concentrate in the elbow region and three are unrepaired holes now. On the front there are 20+ marks mostly below the crest and in the bottom hem. One unrepaired hole can be seen below and right of the crest. Six marks are all I can see on the back besides the light fraying to the numbers and name.

1996 TEAM USA WORLD CUP PRE-TOURNAMENT ROAD BLUE SET
GAME USE & ABUSE: For one game (August 20th, 1996) there is more wear than you would expect . The left sleeve has a nice mark on the #1 and a trio of smaller marks on the upper red stripe. Opposite, on the right sleeve, three solid marks on the lower red and white stripes and two board burns on the upper red stripe and in the blue between the numbers and stripes. On front, nothing can be seen in terms of wear. The back features much of the same the front does (no wear that can be seen).

1997-1998 ANAHEIM DUCKS BURGUNDY ROAD PRESEASON SET
GAME USE & ABUSE: Both arms have two stick marks and the left arm has an additional board burn in the elbow region. Aside from a stick mark going through the logo on the front and a snag in the teal area the front is very clean. None to speak of. The previous owner had Scott signed this jersey behind the crest (thank you). Those thinking of doing so, please do it this way IF you MUST get a signature on your game worn jersey.
LOA/COA: None, but hem tagging states it is a preseason jersey.

2002-2003 DALLAS STARS WHITE HOME PLAYOFF/SET 3
GAME USE & ABUSE: Three stick marks (all at the shoulder), five board burns and a repair are what can be seen on the left arm. The right arm has six board burns in the elbow region and two stick marks up by the numbers. As you can see there is a nice slash across the crest on the front and additionally four other marks can be seen on this jersey. Heavy fraying to the numbers can be seen along with three light stick marks below the #4 in the gold stripe.

2002-2003 DALLAS STARS GREEN ROAD SET 1
GAME USE & ABUSE: Dark jerseys don't show a ton of wear, but you can see a good bit of wear on this jersey. Starting on the left sleeve, there is a half dozen burns that have not become holes yet. A light stick mark on the #8 rounds out the wear on this arm. On the right sleeve, a trio of repairs down by the cuff and three times that in board burns (but again no holes). The front of the jersey features virtually no visible wear. There is a small repair above the left shoulder (just above the Texas state flag patch headed towards the neck). The back of the jersey features limited wear with just one mark on the "star point" below the number #4 in the gold and white. A few loose threads, fraying to letters, and numbers that concludes the wear.

2005-2006 ST. LOUIS BLUES WHITE ROAD SET 2
GAME USE & ABUSE: The left sleeve has nine stick marks and some very light fraying to the numbers. Over on the right sleeve five stick marks, and two board burns in elbow region are all there is to speak of. The front of this jersey features a dozen stick marks over it and a very nice repair in the lower right corner. The back of this jersey actually has eight marks across it that show off pretty decent wear. Light fraying can be seen on the numbers and name.
